In the midst of that, Saul continued on the road down and consulted a medium rather than God on the eve of battle. He and three of his sons died the following day. A two-year civil war erupted between David and Saul’s remaining son, Ish-bosheth. When Ish-bosheth was murdered, David became the undisputed king of Israel.
